Destruction of the Wicked (Psalm 9)

In Psalm 9 David prophesies the destruction of the wicked, but first he worships and praises his God.

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
    I will recount all of your (A)wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and (B)exult in you;
    I will (C)sing praise to your name, (D)O Most High.

When my enemies turn back,
    they stumble and perish before[c] your presence.
For you have (E)maintained my just cause;
    you have (F)sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment. (Psalm 9:1-4, ESV)

After praising God and “recounting” his past deeds David begins to prophesy concerning the final judgment upon the men and nations who despise God and his ways. We have now come to the time when these things David predicts will occur.

You have (G)rebuked the nations; you have made the wicked perish;
    you have (H)blotted out their name forever and ever.
The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins;
    their cities you rooted out;
    the very memory of them has perished.

Then David contrasts the kingdoms of men to God’s Kingdom, and describes the foundation of God’s throne for Yahweh establishes his government upon the twin principles of justice and righteousness, truth and mercy, law and grace. And through his own experiences David always remembers that mercy triumphs over judgment.

But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
    he has established his throne for justice,
and he (I)judges the world with righteousness;
    he (J)judges the peoples with uprightness.

Then David calls upon all men at all times to put their trust in this God who saves and praise his holy Name.

The Lord is (K)a stronghold for (L)the oppressed,
    a stronghold in (M)times of trouble.
10 And those who (N)know your name put their trust in you,
    for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who (O)sits enthroned in Zion!
    Tell among the peoples his (P)deeds!
12 For he who (Q)avenges blood is mindful of them;
    he (R)does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

But then David remembers the present and his current afflictions, troubles similar to those each of us face even today.

13 (S)Be gracious to me, O Lord!
    See my affliction from those who hate me,
    O you who lift me up from (T)the gates of death,
14 that I may recount all your praises,
    that in the gates of (U)the daughter of Zion
    I may (V)rejoice in your salvation.

Yet immediately David begins to prophesy yet again about the sure destruction of the wicked and the exaltation of the “poor and needy,” those who have practiced righteousness and waited patiently and faithfully upon him.

15 The nations have sunk in (W)the pit that they made;
    in (X)the net that they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself (Y)known; he has executed judgment;
    the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.[d]Selah

17 The wicked shall (Z)return to Sheol,
    all the nations that (AA)forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
    and (AB)the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.

Notice that God destroys the wicked in the “pit” and “net” of their own making. This represents a theme consistent in Scripture which is that God will ultimately judge the wicked of the earth by the very schemes of their own devising. Just look around you and begin to see the evil world that men have made in order to make us prisoners and slaves of their debaucheries: 1) drones even in America to spy upon every citizen, 2) Homeland Security reading all of our emails, 3) TSA groping our children and humiliating our grandparents who are no more a threat to this country than the man in the moon, 4) Chemtrails which poison our water, land, plants, trees, and bodies, 5) constant weather modification creating floods, tornados, and derechos, 6) local police armed to the teeth as a second military to keep us in line, 7) destruction of the middle class through excessive taxation (like Obamacare) and fraudulent banking practices and government bailouts, 8) forbidding the teaching of morality or anything Christian in the public schools or anything deemed “public,” 9) courts and liberal politicians consistently demanding that a moral public accept and promote evil behavior like abortion, homosexual acts, homosexual marriage, and pornography, 10) genetically modified foods which harm mankind, 11) cloned and hybrid genetically modified animals, and 12) endless wars against every nation on earth that disagrees with US policy. In order to win these wars the US has developed every type of demonic weapon some mad scientist could imagine.

I wonder which of these things listed above God will use to bring about the plagues that will destroy man’s kingdom? So, with David I pray,

19 (AC)Arise, O Lord! Let not (AD)man prevail;
    let the nations be judged before you!
20 Put them in fear, O Lord!
    Let the nations know that they are but (AE)men! Selah
