Victory & Dominion (Psalm 8)

David begins his Psalm 8 song of praise by extolling the majesty of God.

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth! who have set your glory above the heavens. (Psalms 8:1 KJ2000)

The Old Testament gives us the name of God primarily as Jehovah, Yahweh,  Yehovah, or LORD, but we see other names used as well, such as Adonai and Elohim. In the New Testament, though, we learn a new name for God, the name Jesus.

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:10-12 KJ2000)

In the Old Testament we learn the the Hebrew name for Jesus is Yeshua, which was usually translated there as Joshua. Jesus himself says, “No one comes to the Father except through me,” which means that no one can be reconciled to and have a relationship with God unless he believes in Jesus Christ and approaches God based upon his faith in Jesus alone. Today there exists a great push toward “New Age” syncretistic faith which claims that all “true” religions, like Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism,Yoga (and anything else you can think of), lead to God. The Word of God makes it clear this is not true, for one day every knee will bow to Jesus Christ and to him alone when all his enemies are made a footstool for his feet.

Obviously Jesus, who is the God of the Old Testament according to Isaiah 9:6 and many other Scriptures, gave David a revelation of who he was, and David declares his majesty here in verse 1 of Psalm 8. Here David declares victory in the majesty and glory of God and then immediately moves on to the dominion of God’s people which rests upon that foundation of Christ’s majesty and glory.

Out of the mouth of babes and infants have you ordained strength because of your enemies, that you might still the enemy and the avenger. (Psalms 8:2 KJ2000)

What? This verse shows victory and dominion? Yes, for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Who is a babe and an infant (in the eyes of the world) except for those who foolishly believe upon Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and who believe what he says? And who is a babe and infant in the eyes of their Father except he or she who is growing in faith and obedience to become a mature son of God?

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hid these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father:  for so it seemed good in your sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither knows any man the Father, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:25-30 KJ2000)

Yes, we who believe are the infants and babes David refers to. Now consider, out of our mouths God has ordained strength. Jesus quotes this verse in Matthew 21:16 and uses the word “praise” instead of strength, but the Hebrew word used in Psalm 8:2, עֹז `oz oze, according to Strong’s means, “strength in various applications (force, security, majesty, praise)” and is translated in the King James Version as “boldness, loud, might, power, strength, and strong.” The word first appears in Exodus 15:2 where it is translated “strength.”

The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. (Exodus 15:2 KJ2000)

Notice the name of Jesus, יְשׁוּעָה y@shuw`ah, yesh-oo’-aw, appears in this verse translated as “salvation,” as well as three names for God, יָהּ Yahh yaw, translated here as “LORD,” אֵל ‘el ale translated as “God,” and אֱלֹהִים ‘elohiym el-o-heem’ translated as “God.” This verse clearly, then, relates to Psalm 8:2 and the principle of “first mention” requires us to fully examine all of Exodus 15 to understand the Biblical meaning of  עֹז `oz oze or “strength.”

In Exodus 15:1 Moses proclaims that he is singing this song to the LORD and to the people of Israel. The word Israel is יִשְׂרָאֵל Yisra’el yis-raw-ale’ and means, “he will rule as God.” Israel, of course, is the name God gave to his people, the descendants of Jacob, the man God also renamed “Israel.” So the name Israel refers to a people who will rule “as God.” Moses uses the word יְהֹוָה Y@hovah yeh-ho-vaw’ which means “self-Existent or Eternal” for LORD in verse 1, which is another name for God.

So, what does Moses mean when he says that the LORD is his strength and his song? Verse 3 says, “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.” Then he describes how God has just destroyed the Egyptian army, the greatest army on earth, by supernatural power and means. Next he says,

The depths have covered them: they sank to the bottom as a stone. Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power: your right hand, O LORD, has dashed in pieces the enemy. (Exodus 15:5-6 KJ2000)

Finally Moses prophesies how the rest of the nations shall hear of God’s mighty deeds of strength and tremble in fear.

You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. You in your mercy have led forth the people whom you have redeemed: you have guided them in your strength unto your holy habitation. The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till your people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, whom you have purchased. You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which you have made for you to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. The LORD shall reign forever and ever. (Exodus 15:12-18 KJ2000)

Returning to Psalm 8, consider, why did God “ordain strength” to issue from his babes and infants? David says it was because of God’s enemies so that he might still, or destroy, the enemy and the avenger of his people Israel. God spoke and destroyed the enemy of ancient Israel in the days of Moses. How will he destroy Israel’s enemy in the soon coming war? By the strength that comes “out of the mouth of babes and infants” who have believed in him.

The days are upon us when God will birth his overcomers, his babes and infants, into everlasting life in what the Bible calls the revelation of the sons of God. These overcomers will have life (and death) within themselves and will speak with the same creative and destructive force as God did when he delivered Israel from Egypt. The sword of the spirit is the word that comes forth from their mouths to destroy the great enemy who would rule the earth instead of God, the dragon known as Satan.

This dragon will soon reveal himself to the people of earth as he comes down in chariots (ufo’s) in the sight of men pretending to be aliens from another world. Interestingly, Moses even alludes to chariots in verse 4 of this prophetic parable from Exodus 15 which speaks of today. Mike Hoggard is one person who, I believe, has conclusively shown that many times the word chariots in Scripture actually refers to satanic or angelic ufo’s. Many of God’s watchmen now understand that Satan will use an alien deception in order to confuse earth’s people about Christ’s actual second coming. I suggest you read web postings and books by Douglas Hamp and Thomas Horn for more information about this.

A three and one half year great tribulation is about to begin. When it begins both Satan and God will appear in great power. Neither will look like what people have been led to believe and many people will be deceived. You must fill yourselves with the oil of God’s Spirit and Word now. God will not leave his people unprotected when the enemy comes in like a flood, but you need to have discernment in order to know who to trust and you need to know the truth so that you will not believe the lie. The glorified sons of God will be on earth at this time. They will create cities of refuge in the wilderness for God’s people. They will provide food, water, and all necessities of life. But, Satan’s demonic host under the guise of space aliens who looks like us will also be here to deceive. You must not take the mark of the beast. You will be provided for if you believe God’s promises, but if you take the mark during these days it appears to me that you cannot then overcome during the great tribulation.

New Jerusalem awaits those who believe and trust Christ just as Moses proclaims in his prophetic song:

You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which you have made for you to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. The LORD shall reign forever and ever. (Exodus 15:17-18 KJ2000)
