You Shall Have No Other gods Before Me (Abomination of Desolation (3))

Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, that we may know it! Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mix strong drink: Who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the justice of the righteous from him! Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he has stretched forth his hand against them, and has stricken them: and the hills did tremble, and their dead bodies were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. (Isaiah 5:18-25)

God’s judgment must now come because the majority of men who should esteem God’s Law, Christians and believers in the one God of the Bible, have actually rejected his Law and turned away from his Word. We will now begin to examine the ways in which we have done this.

We can find the ten commandments written in Exodus 20. The first command states, “And God spoke all these words, saying, I am the LORD your God, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:1-3) Throughout Scripture the God of the Bible makes it clear that HE IS GOD and that there is no other god besides him. We live in the age of syncretistic religion, a time when Christians have accepted other religions’ gods as being on a par with their “god.” Today we see “Christian” churches espouse, for example, Islamic beliefs as does Jeremiah Wright’s church in Chicago, the church Barack Obama attended until attention was called to its peculiar views. When a church honors the tenets of another religion it places that religion’s god before their God, before Yahweh.

But the problem bores much deeper than simple religious practice in the various independent churches and denominations. Their failure to honor God as God has now permeated all societies in the Western world. All the nations of Europe and North and South America used to be known as “Christian” nations. During the last eighty or more years we witnessed all of these nations slowly turn from their Christian roots into “secular,” i.e. formally polytheistic nations. This means that most Western nations generally give lip service to “religious freedom” where religion means the worship of any demon or deity. Today they utterly forbid the Christian religion to speak into their political or legal systems. Truly Christian voices are always utterly condemned as being judgmental or intolerant. This active public persecution of Christian values has further eroded law and order in all modern civilizations. Fear and criminal mayhem now rules the streets. Riots have now become common in many cities around the world as law and order further breaks down. This all results directly from abandoning God and his Law. Today a plethora of gods compete for attention among our multitudes. Yahweh, we think, simply stands as one more begging for our attention and honor.

Has a nation changed its gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be astonished, O you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be you very desolate, says the LORD. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed themselves out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jeremiah 2:11-13)

Like Judah of old America also changed her gods. She forsook the God upon whom her entire civilization was built. Of course she was never perfect. Of course sinful men still rose to power within her and committed atrocities. Today, however the atrocities occur daily and have become commonplace. God no longer informs us concerning right and wrong. We decide. God’s creation no longer stands respected among men. We think we can do it better and thus we create genetically modified plants and chimera monsters.

God created man so that the fulness of the deity could dwell within him. God created man to be His temple. But today man has become his own temple. He sits in this temple proclaiming that he is God, not Yahweh. Mankind has thus become the abomination which Jesus warned must come before He comes again.
